Intelligent Grid Solutions, LLC (IGSolutions) was established in mid-2009 by its two major investors,
FirstEnergy Corporation (NYSE: FE) and
First Communications, Inc. (AIM: FCOM). After considerable review and analysis of the evolving “Smart Grid” market place, their vision was to create and structure a firm that would become a key player in the “green” segment of the energy management revolution in the U. S. and abroad.
In particular, these two anchor investors recognized that Smart Grid issues would most likely dominate the broad energy landscape well into the future. As such, keeping this strategic observation in mind, they conducted an exhaustive search to identify the kind of superior managerial and technical talent (please see
Management and
Board of Directors profiles) that could launch IGSolutions into a viable solutions provider that is dedicated to designing, building and managing complex Smart Grid applications and services for electric utilities facing similar challenges as FirstEnergy.
Once the IGSolutions concept was formulated, FirstEnergy and First Communications provided the necessary seed capital to launch the Company into a substantive, market-ready entity. Initial financing supported staff recruiting, infrastructure development and other ancillary technical and administrative functions; continued funding to support growth and broaden IGSolutions’ market penetration comes from additional
partners and
investors that collaborate with IGSolutions to serve the Smart Grid market place.
For both strategic reasons and practical service-delivery purposes, IGSolutions has established dual Headquarters in Akron, Ohio to serve the needs of our anchor client, FirstEnergy, and in Denver, Colorado which is widely regarded as the geographic hub for various “green” initiatives and alternative energy research efforts.
Overall, the electric power industry is going through a rapid, profound and exciting transformation. With the support, encouragement and resources offered by our investors and partners, IGSolutions is positioned to focus primarily on two key markets within the Smart Grid space: 1) The top 100 Investor-Owned Utilities (IOU); and 2) the top 50 Municipal Electric Operating (MEO) companies. Indeed, within this framework, IGSolutions’ suite of services (please see
Solutions section of this Web site) and our customized, client-centered approach are designed to put IGSolutions at the forefront of “Awakening the Smart Grid.”
